Emerald Pincer
Experience on kill: 25
Description
The emerald pincer is a formidable forest dweller with a robust, dark green shell that often hosts patches of moss, allowing it to blend perfectly with the forest underbrush. Despite its bulky appearance, this creature is surprisingly agile, capable of moving through its environment with swift and stealthy grace.
Behavior
Emerald pincers are diurnal creatures, active during the daylight hours, which allows them to utilize the sunlight to warm their cold-blooded bodies. They live in large, structured colonies similar to ants, exhibiting complex social behaviors and division of labor. Each colony consists of workers and queens. Despite their resemblance to ants, the workers are also in charge of laying eggs to bolster the colony numbers, while the queen is incapable of producing offspring. The highly social nature of emerald pincers makes their colonies efficient and resilient, capable of rapidly adapting to changes in their environment or threats.
Diet
As scavengers, emerald pincers have a varied diet but primarily consume dead or decaying matter, helping to clean the forest floor. Their strong pincers allow them to access food sources that other creatures cannot, such as breaking open hard-shelled nuts or tearing apart tough carcasses.
Usage
Due to their destructive nature when in large numbers, emerald pincers are often seen as pests by local forest communities. However, their shells and pincers are valued for various uses, such as durable armor and tools. Managing their population is essential to maintain the forest's ecological balance, preventing them from becoming too numerous and causing harm to the habitat.
Known variant: Queen Emerald Pincer
Experience on kill: 450
Despite common belief, pincer queens do not produce offspring for the colony. They utilize their larger and bulkier form to guard the nest and eggs from intruders and larger nests may host more than one queen.
